Virgin Aqua — Branson’s brand goes underwater

The Virgin Group is reportedly investigating the launch of an underwater brand, called Virgin Aqua, that will see passengers travel on submarines on deep sea expeditions to the Great Barrier Reef, according to industry rag Travel Today (14 July 2009).
The daily cites feasibility studies currently taking place at senior management level, and says that Virgin Aqua will operate much like the Virgin Galactic space travel branch of the Branson empire (though to a much different ‘great unknown’).
The undersea application of the brand is reportedly looking into fully submersible vessels, complete with cruise-ship-like accommodation, and will explore itineraries that include the Great Barrier Reef and other parts of the South Pacific popular with underwater enthusiasts (including Vanuatu and New Caledonia).
No timeline for the operation has been set as yet.
Would you take a ‘cruise’ … on a submarine?
