2010: the Passion Play

THE ‘OBERAMMERGAU PASSION PLAY’, STAGED ONCE every decade, has been added to APT’s Magnificent Europe river cruise next year. This special Passion Play cruise 19-day package, will depart on 28 Jul, 25 Aug and 22 Sept 2010 and will have an overnight stay in Oberammergau and three nights in Munich added to the itinerary.
The Oberammagau Passion Play started in 1634, when the residents of the German village pledged to God that if they were spared from the Bubonic Plague they would perform a play every ten years telling the story of the life and death of Jesus Christ. No further people died from the plague so, in 1634 they staged the first performance of the Passion Play. Over 2000 Oberammagau residents are involved in this “truly unforgettable experience.
